FIELD NOTES

“Field notes” are the observations, impressions, and details someone records while studying something directly in the real world. They’re most often used in science and research.

Everything we do with Floating Market is truly an experiment, so we found it fitting to make our own rendition of field notes: applying scientific observation to thought and feeling. It was a way for our team to stay connected to the present moment (and stay offline) during a big shoot. It also provided a space for us to notice the details we might have otherwise missed.

Here are the highlights. We hope this brings you back to your imagination in the same way it did for us.

  • The book Thought Forms by Besant and Leadbeater (1905) has passed between Floating Market founders (we can’t recommend it enough) and has directly inspired the contents of our field notes. The authors explore the abstract idea that every thought and emotion emits its own shape and color. Whether you believe that literally or just appreciate the imagery, it fits what we’re doing at Floating Market: slowing down to process the beauty within us and all around us. A shoot feels different when everyone’s present.
